Original manuscripts should be prepared according to the latest edition of the Chicago Manual of Style. Manuscripts must not have been published, nor submitted for publication or available on the Internet, elsewhere. Interdisciplinary work is particularly welcome. Authors for whom English is not their first language may wish to have their manuscript read by a native speaker before submission. Articles should not exceed 8,000 words in length including notes and references. The Editors may be willing to consider longer articles of up to 9,000 words, but authors should be aware that this extends only to articles of the highest quality where a longer treatment is essential to the subject and argument. All articles should be accompanied by an abstract of up to 150 words. Articles and comprehensive short review essays will be peer-reviewed (double blind peer-review). Book reviews should be approximately 600 to 800 words in length. Manuscripts should be written in a clear and concise style. Where contributions are judged as acceptable for publication on the basis of content, the editors reserves the right to modify the text to eliminate ambiguity or repetition to the benefit of readers. Manuscripts are submitted for review to the Editor, Mihai Dragnea (email address: mihaidragnea2018@gmail.com). The final manuscripts are uploaded on the Hiperboreea Editorial Manager website. Authors will be required to register a profile on the Editorial Manager platform and upon successful registration will receive an e-mail with instructions to verify their registration. More information on the registration process can be found on the Editorial Manager website. Authors who are unable to submit their manuscripts via Editorial Manager must contact Astrid Meyer prior to submission to discuss alternative options (email address: aum38@psu.edu). The Publisher is not able to consider submissions that do not follow these procedures.
Membership of the Balkan History Association (BHA) is open to anyone with an interest in the Balkans, and, more generally, of South-East Europe. All individual members of the Balkan History Association receive a hardcopy of Hiperboreea, access to its digital content, a regular member newsletter, and reduced BHA conference registration fees. All articles can be used or distributed by the authors for non-commercial purposes, within academic networks, and not on public websites, only with the written permission of the Editor-in-Chief.
